Untapped Talent in a Netflix World

Why is there so much untapped talent in our communities and workplaces?
My daughter just turned 18 in a Netflix-era world.I turned 18 in a Blockbuster-era world.
But what does that have to do with untapped talent?
Well… you can’t lead Netflix talent with Blockbuster-era thinking.
When I was 18, my biggest challenge was remembering to rewind the VHS and hunting down the newspaper to find a job. My daughter turns 18 and she’s navigating 4,000 possible futures, 12 platforms, 9 careers, 3 side hustles — plus a personality quiz telling her who she should be.
The world has changed.
But in some ways, in many workplaces we havent.
We’re still running Blockbuster systems in a Netflix world:
• Rigid org charts
• Hierarchical models
• Leadership frameworks last updated around the time shoulder pads were trending.
No wonder brilliant ideas hit walls — we’re streaming while they’re still shelving tapes.
That’s why BOSS exists: to gather the women who get the world we’re actually living in. Squiggly careers. Life detours. Reinvention. Hybrid chaos. Massive creativity.
2026 isn’t a year for Blockbuster thinking. It’s a year for BOSS PODs, small career circles, for women, whose life sometimes places their career up in the air, steadying them, together forging a career movement collective called Bandofsisters — streaming our own stories and creating the show we want to star in.
P.S. My daughter asked me, “What is Blockbuster?”Enough said.
